A test owner is the person whose DNA is reflected in the test results. An owner can assign someone else to manage their test.
A test manager can do everything an owner can do, including invite others to view the test, delete the test results, and download the DNA Data. An owner can remove a manager from their test at any time. A manager cannot remove an owner.
Making someone a manager is useful when the owner is either not interested in managing their own results or is unable to manage their test.
Inviting a manager
- From any page on Ancestry, click the DNA tab and select Your DNA Results Summary.
- On your DNA homepage, click Settings in the top-right corner.
- On the DNA Settings page, scroll down to the Visibility and sharing section and select DNA test sharing.
- If you’ve never shared your results with the person you’re inviting to manage your test, click Invite and go to the next step. If you’ve shared your results with them before, click their role and change it to Manager. After changing their role, enter your password and click Assign Role. Skip the rest of the steps below. You’ll receive an email when the person accepts their role as manager.
- Enter their email address or Ancestry® username, select Manager, and choose Invite. Whether you enter their email address or username, the invitation will be sent by email.
- When your invitation is accepted, you’ll receive an email letting you know.
Where the managed test appears
Unless the test is deleted, a DNA test always remains on the account on which it was activated (the owner’s account). When someone becomes a manager, the owner’s test appears on both the manager’s account and on the owner’s account, on each person’s DNA homepage. The manager can access the test they manage by clicking View Another Test from their own DNA homepage.

Memberships
A membership purchased on one account does not transfer to another account. If you manage someone else’s DNA test on your account and your account has a membership, you can access the DNA features of their test that are available with a membership. If you manage someone else’s test on your account and you don’t have a membership (but they do), you don’t have access to the features available only with a membership.
