The founders ideas define what conservative means. Their ideas were true one thousand years ago. True in 1776. True today. Conservatism means to conserve these ideas as being true.
Some say in 1776 these were liberal ideas because they did not conserve the popular politics of their day. But they did express older, more primordial ideas. That is what conservatism is – an expression of primordial conservative western ideas founded on Judea-Christian ideas. The founders argued that parliament has strayed from primordial ideas. This is why the founders were actually conservatives.
